Democratic backsliding and independent instititions

After the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, almost all research on the quality of democracy shows

that democracy in Croatia is stagnating or weakening. This decline in the democratic character of the state is not so much

manifested in the violation of fundamental democratic rights, as in the manipulation, incorrect interpretation or

marginalization of procedures, institutions, actors and activities that exist in the democratic system in order to control those

who have the power.

The goal of this round table is, through discussions with all relevant stakeholders to find solutions that can stop Croatia's
democratic decline and strengthen democratic mechanisms within the political system.
