After completing her studies at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, she worked in journalism and private entrepreneurship. With the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Maja was given the opportunity to work at the NGO Sunce. She recognized this as an excellent opportunity, as topics of sustainability and environmental protection had become even more important to her after becoming a mother.

During the conversation, Maja particularly emphasized the importance of communication on environmental issues and the ways in which the public can be encouraged to actively participate. She highlighted the role of citizens in decision-making processes, as well as the need for inclusion, and invited all interested parties to take part in shaping the upcoming amendments to the new Nature Protection Act.

The association encourages the public to participate in solving environmental problems through the Green Phone, a service through which citizens can report environmental issues free of charge, while the association’s expert team provides the necessary advisory and legal support.

During the episode, there was also discussion about the importance of preserving sensitive marine habitats, with a particular focus on the protection of posidonia and the introduction of controlled anchoring. Alongside the discussion on reducing marine waste, the topic of sustainable tourism was also addressed, with examples of good practices from Oman and Sri Lanka.

For 28 years, NGO Sunce has been working on nature protection and sustainable development, with a special focus on preserving the Adriatic and advocating for protected marine areas. Although its headquarters are in Split, its activities cover much of Dalmatia through projects related to waste management, education, and addressing local environmental challenges on the ground.
