Program

The program runs each year from 1 March to 31 July. Through events and workshops organized by political foundations, participants deepen their understanding of the values of an active civil society.

The main component of the scholarship consists of a three-month internship in the office of a Member of the Bundestag. During the full-time internship, scholarship holders have the opportunity to become familiar with the various tasks carried out in Members’ offices. Active participation is an important aspect of the experience and includes drafting speeches, articles, and letters, preparing meetings, and performing administrative duties. In addition, scholarship holders accompany their Members to committee meetings, parliamentary group meetings, and other Bundestag bodies, gaining insight into the internal functioning, relationships, and processes of the parliament. A visit to the electoral constituency of the Member in whose office the scholarship holders are placed is also planned.

During the summer semester, scholarship holders are enrolled as visiting students at Humboldt University in Berlin. If they wish, they may also attend up to two courses at Humboldt University or another university in Berlin during the practical part of the program.

Scholarship

The scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €700, free accommodation, travel expenses to Berlin, as well as health insurance, accident insurance, and liability insurance. The International Parliamentary Scholarship is funded by the Bundestag, and the program is under the patronage of Julia Klöckner.
