Who Is (and Who Is Not) Represented in the Slovenian Parliament?

Who is represented in the Slovenian Parliament, and whose interests remain unheard? Does the National Assembly reflect the social diversity of Slovenian society, or does political decision-making remain in the hands of a relatively narrow group of people?

The study “Who Is (and Who Is Not) Represented in the Slovenian Parliament? Unequal Democracies 2026”, authored by Dr Jernej Štromajer, analyses the composition of the Slovenian Parliament and highlights significant disparities between the representation of different social groups in Parliament and their share of the population.

The findings show that young people, women and members of the working class remain underrepresented, while the Parliament is dominated by highly educated, middle-aged individuals with professional and managerial backgrounds. The study therefore raises broader questions about political equality, access to political participation, and the structural barriers that make it more difficult for certain groups to enter politics.

We cordially invite you to a presentation of the study and a roundtable discussion on how to build a more inclusive and representative democracy. Together, we will discuss who shapes political decisions today, how young people and working-class communities can be more effectively involved in political life, and what changes are needed to ensure that Parliament better reflects the society it represents.
